Usual dose: IV/IM
Preterm labor: continuous IV infusion, initial, for women with preterm labor and intact membranes, an effective intravenous (IV) dosing regimen has begun with a 6.75 mg bolus, followed immediately by infusion of 300 mcg/min for 3 h and then a 100 mcg/min infusion.
Contraindication:
preeclampsia or eclampsia, suspected chorioamnionitis, abruptio placentae, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, multiple gestation, intrauterine fetal distress or fetal death.
Adverse effect:
Chest pain, tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, headache.
