適應症:子宮收縮促進劑、催產劑。

Usual dose:

Induction of labor:

Initial, 0.5-1 mU/min IV (3-6 ml/h of a 10 mU/L dilute oxytocin solution); gradually increase dose in increments of 1-2 mU/min q 30-60 min until desired contraction pattern has been established; once desired frequency of contractions has been reached and labor progressed to 5-6 cm dilation, the dose may be reduced by similar increments.

Postpartum hemorrhage:

10-40 U of oxytocin added to running IV infusion, max. 40 U to 1000 ml IV solution; 10 U IM given after delivery of the placenta.

Adverse effect:

Mother: nausea, vomiting, arrhythmia, hypertensive episodes, premature ventricular contractions, pelvic hematoma, postpartum hemorrhage, uterine hypertonicity, tetanic contraction of the uterus, uterine rupture, uterine spasm, afibrinogenemia, anaphylaxis, subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Fetus or neonate: arrhythmia, bradycardia, brain or CNS damage, neonatal seizure, neonatal jaundice, neonatal retinal hemorrhage, fetal death, low Apgar score (5 min).
